Are You In Your Comfort Zone?

March 14, 2010

Q: What is your “business” Comfort Zone Posture?

A: Your comfort zone can easily be classified as a racket or a scheme. Whether intentional or unintentional, comfort zone schemes or rackets are a phenomenon that most of us play on a daily basis. This includes buyers, sellers, managers and workers. Nobody is exempt from being sucked into a comfort zone overload.

To exemplify my assertion, try this exercise:

1. Hold out your left hand and form the shape of a “C” to stand for YOUR comfort zone
2. Take your right forefinger and place it in the center of the “C” sort of in mid-air
3. This represents YOU in YOUR comfort zone
4. Now without moving your finger, move your comfort zone above or below your finger
5. If you go up, your comfort zone has just been expanded
6. If you go down, your comfort zone has just become out of balance and a bit scary

Now in this exercise you have three choices:

A. Scurry yourself up to YOUR NEW and IMPROVED comfort zone level
B. Fall down into the alien area known as the scary zone
C. Or pull your comfort zone back to the stationery location of your finger, thus doing nothing

Life, especially our business lives come at us in break neck speed. How we act or react dictates our personal development, willingness to change, strengths, and desires to succeed or just be status quo (also known as 8 and out the gate).
The real deal is that you have the choice to play the racket or not. Others may try to suck you into their racket to knock you off your game for their betterment. Play or don’t play, that is the choice. Cave in, stand pat or grow.
If you truly know yourself, are filled with confidence, are a sponge for listening and learning, and recognize the tremendous power you have within yourself, you will stay the course. 2010 is almost through the first quarter and I am strongly suggesting that if you already haven’t, you should get into your comfort zone and be ready for every growth opportunity that enters your life. By December 31, 2010 you will have thanked yourself for taking control now and many times over.
